If You’re New Here.
I've arrived in your inbox again.
Just incase you haven't been with me since 2019 and heard the whole background story on Fibird, here's the short version.
I'm a high school home ec teacher (textile arts & design) by trade. As a kid I sewed, made hemp bracelets for craft sales (IYKYK) and seriously dreamed of becoming an advertising mogul like someone off of Mad Men, but like, less fitted dresses and more flowy linen… but anyways.
In 2018 I had a baby, and I found myself… not myself. It was hard becoming a parent, and GREAT, but oompf hard. I scrolled the interwebs and dreamed of the craft sale days and making things with my hands that I would be super proud of. I needed something outside of taking care of my new tiny human to help fill my cup.
I stumbled across Rose Pearlman and Amy Oxford Punch Needles on Pinterest, ordered all the stuff (which was really hard to find, ‘cause like who the heck knows what punch needle is?!) and came to realize quickly that I didn’t have all the right tools. So I went back on the hunt. EVENTUALLY I FOUND THE STUFF!
Unlike many a craft-tool purchase before, Punch Needle was something I kept doing because it was ‘no-fail’, I couldn't screw it up. If something didn't look good, I just pulled yarn out as far as necessary and started again. Minimal loss of time, absolutely no loss of material. And this is why I love Punch Needle.
Fast forward to today, I'm still making things and even teaching it. Hello local workshops and an E-COURSE available anywhere you have internet! My love for playing with texture has only grown, as I take on different commissions and personal projects. I've also really fallen in love with teaching adults; this shouldn't surprise me but alas, haha.
Okay last really important thing that I've tried to keep at the centre of everything Fibird: COMMUNITY.
To me, connecting with community, building trust, taking care of the environment, choosing sustainable and small footprints materials, making commissioned work accessible, etc, etc… this is the heart of Fibird. I want that connection, I want it to be honest and I want it to be real. So if you're new to following me on socials, you're going to see a lot of community ❤️✨
Phewph, so much for the short version! Thanks for being here.
